Hand sanitizer is usually a foamy liquid, gel or powder in general used to destroy many microorganisms/viruses on the human hand. Usually, hand washing with plain water and soap is usually recommended in most instances. Unfortunately, many people do not follow these simple tips when caring for their hands and frequently touch themselves with dirty hands without realizing it until it is too late. This results in spreading bacteria and microorganisms throughout the body which can cause sickness and other diseases.
The perfect way to avoid spreading bacteria is to ensure that you wash your hands as often as possible. If you want to use sanitizer to fight the germs that are on your hands, then the ideal time is after brushing your teeth, combing or washing your hair. Simply spray the sanitizer on your hands, rub them together for a few seconds and rinse your hands with plain water. If you have to rub your hands together, then ensure that you do so carefully and do it for at least 20 seconds or more.
Hand sanitizers sold over the counter come in two different forms. The first form contains either chlorine dioxide or ethylene glycol. These two ingredients kill germs, viruses and bacteria. The second form of sanitizer contains either sodium hypochlorite or isopropyl alcohol. Both of these ingredients are less expensive than chlorine dioxide or ethylene glycol, but they also do not work as quickly as the former two.
When choosing a sanitizer for use, one of the most important factors to consider is its potency. It should be able to kill the germs that are in your hands as quickly as possible, but it should also be the least expensive option. To test if the sanitizer you are planning to use can do the job, rub your hands together until staining appears, then pinch your fingers and try to wipe your hands as hard as you can. If the staining comes off rather fast, then the product you chose is effective.
Another thing to keep in mind when choosing a hand sanitizer product is whether it is made of natural or synthetic materials. For surgical hand disinfection, it is advisable to choose products that are biocompatible with the human body. Products that are made from natural materials, like soybean-based products, are usually safe for use, though they are nowhere near as effective as those that are made of synthetic materials. Surgical hand washing is also done with hot water, so it is not advised to use hand washing soap because the process might damage the skin.
Hand sanitizers are easy to come by, with many supermarkets having them on hand. However, when buying them from a pharmacy, make sure that the products you get are the right brand, as there are brands out there that are not effective at all, and are even harmful to your health. Make sure to ask a pharmacist or browse the Internet about the brand that you want to purchase. Once you have a list of potential brands to choose from, you will then be able to find the best fit for you.
